BIO
Ripley Davenport, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, is a dedicated explorer and adventurer of the desert regions.
He first received indigenous training in desert travel techniques in Niger, and later from the Gadia Lohars, a nomadic community in the Thar
Desert. His camel-supported and man-hauling expeditions have taken him through the Namib Desert of south west Africa, on an 82-day
northerly traverse, and the Karakum Desert of Central Asia, on a solo traverse attempt, from the Garabil Plateau to the Karabaur Hills. In 2010
taking just 52 days, he completed a 1,012 mile solo man-hauling crossing of the Mongolian-Manchurian Steppe and Gobi Desert. The following
year, he led the Gobi 2011 Expedition, traversing 1,000 miles of the Altai Mountain range and Gobi desert, supported by a Bactrian camel
caravan.
Ripley served in the Royal Navy in combat operations as a warfare specialist in addition to completing numerous specialist courses such as
Intelligence Photographer and Ship's Diver. Initially deployed to the West Indies, his active roles there included support for counter narcotic
operations and humanitarian assistance in the wake of hurricanes and tropical storms. He later served with the Atlantic & Falkland Islands
Patrol Task Force supporting British forces in the South Atlantic. He also served in the Royal Air Force Regiment as a Field Gunner.
Ripley is a Brand Ambassador for powertraveller and Termo Original.
